Our MissionHyCEM endeavors to drive diversification and democratization of power production in Myanmar. With support from the Renewable Energy Association Myanmar (REAM), HyCEM accomplishes this goal through a grassroots, scalable practice-to-policy approach, in tandem with domestic and international stakeholders.

Who We AreHyCEM, a member network of the REAM, is currently comprised of seven rural power developers from Shan State, Chin State, and Yangon Region. As the Association matures, it will expand membership to represent as many state- and regional-level practitioners as possible. To learn more about our current members, please visit our Members page.

Our HistoryHyCEM was initially formed in February 2015 in affiliation with REAM, prompted by a series of assessments and workshops conducted over the past several years. Guidance and support has been provided to HyCEM along the way by REAM and the Hydro Empowerment Network of South and Southeast Asia (HPNET).

We just want to light up the rural areas. Without any support from local or international actors, it will be difficult, but we have been doing this for many years and we will continue to try.
-U Zaw Min, founding member of HyCEM, in a 2015 interview for Frontier Myanmar magazine
